Volute and Starter Posts

Volutes are frequently requested by customers as a way to add ornamental value to a staircase. A volute is spiral scroll-like ornament normally placed on a starter post at the bottom of a staircase. Although volutes are normally used on wood stairs, they are also available on all metal stairs as well. Special volute orders are welcome.

Like volutes, starter posts, are often used as a decorative addition to a wood stair. The starter post may be used at either the top or bottom of the staircase. Aside from adding ascetic value, starter posts often add additional strength in the handrail/baluster string.
